Teacher Killed and Two Dozen Pupils Seized in Armed Clash at Nigerian School
Weapon-carrying attackers have fatally shot an educator and kidnapped no fewer than 25 pupils in an assault against a educational institution for young women in north-western Nigeria, authorities have confirmed.
The gang of attackers stormed the comprehensive secondary school for girls in the Maga locality within Kebbi State at around 4 AM local time on the start of the week, officials stated.
The attackers "engaged police personnel on duty in a shootout" before climbing over the boundary wall and abducting the learners from their living quarters, an official report indicated.
A school employee was killed while trying to protect the students. An additional employee received firearm injuries and is now receiving treatment.
Witnesses reported a large group of attackers, known locally as bandits, who appeared discharging weapons intermittently to cause panic.
