The second-hand marketplace Shoppers Express Displeasure About Size Changes
Vinted users have been reacting angrily following a change that caused products showing incorrect sizing.
The second-hand shopping app has revised its sizing categories for women's and children's clothes without notifying all users about the change.
Online Platforms Backlash
Countless users and merchants have taken to social media stating that platform listings now display a different size category compared to what was initially listed because of the remapping.
The company said the new system was more in line with other platforms.
They have suggested members to examine their items and update the measurements by hand when needed, causing user dissatisfaction.
Sizing System Changes
Earlier, the measurements included one number and one letter, like S/8 or M/10.
The updated approach includes a letter with a size spectrum for example S/UK 8-10.
For certain items, the size labels have been reassigned - such as a large size was previously a 12 but now shows as UK 16-18.
Member Experiences
One content creator, who makes TikTok content about plus-size fashion, explained the modification "makes transactions more difficult".
"Rarely do manufacturers list XL as sizes 20-22," which is what Vinted now does.
Another user, based in Glasgow, said garments she listed with size 14 tags were showing in the marketplace as size 20–22.
"If anyone [who is] size 20-22 buys them they will likely be quite upset," she said.
Required Changes
A different user, based in Derby, stated she felt frustrated due to the update requiring manual adjustment the sizing for "all her products".
"For me this is particularly frustrating, as I'm chronically ill and selling on Vinted has been paramount for me since losing part of my income," she explained.
Platform Context
The service features exceeding 100 million shoppers, comprising 18 million UK members.
It has proved a popular alternative versus similar marketplaces including eBay and Depop.
This is not the initial instance that an unexpected update within the service has received backlash: earlier, the service retracted a modification to its shipping options due to shopper criticism.
