Two Victims Revealed in the Ivy League School Attack as Authorities Persist in Hunt for Perpetrator.
Two students who died in Saturday’s tragic incident in Providence had tributes paid to them on Monday – as a manhunt for their assailant continued following the freeing by local law enforcement of the single suspect of interest in the case.
Remembering Ella Cook
The young woman Ella Cook, a sophomore from Alabama, was remembered as “an amazing, stable, pious, radiant soul”, per the Advent Cathedral in Birmingham, which offered condolences for her at a service on Sunday.
She served as the vice-presidency of Brown’s division of the campus GOP group, as the club stated. Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt also posted words of sorrow on social media, remarking: “Words cannot express. Thinking of her loved ones and companions, especially her parents.”
An International Student
The other deceased individual was MukhammadAziz Umurzokov, an Uzbek national in his freshman year at the renowned school, family members said.
The victim's identification was verified by the foreign office of Uzbekistan.
“He was incredibly kind, funny, and smart. His ambitions were lofty of becoming a neurosurgeon and assisting patients,” his sibling Samira said in a online post.
The Shooting Incident
Nine other people were hurt in the violent event in the school of engineering of Brown’s university in Providence, during the institution's end-of-term tests.
Officials stated by the end of Sunday that a 24-year-man taken into custody in a search at a lodging about 17 miles from the campus earlier in the day was released from custody.
“A perpetrator remains free,” declared Peter Neronha, Peter Neronha.
He continued, “Sometimes you head in one direction, and then you have to regroup and go in another, and this is precisely what occurred over the last 24 hours or so.”
Public Fear
The city's mayor, Brett Smiley, noted: “We know that this is likely to cause new worry for our community”.
The assailant began shooting inside a classroom in the engineering facility on over the weekend, shooting over four dozen bullets from a handgun, a police source informed the news agency.
Law enforcement that entered the inn found a pair of pistols and two ammunition clips when the suspect was arrested, the news agency reported.
Those Hurt
Regarding the nine injured, one pupil was released from the hospital, said Christina Paxson, Christina Paxson. Seven others were in serious yet stable state, and one was in critical condition, officials reported on Sunday.
A private school, a independent school in the city of Durham, said a recent graduate, Kendall Turner, was among those critically wounded.
Additional Memorials
Cook was honored at a church service in Birmingham on Sunday. A pastor commented, “Her presence was a wonderful, steady, pious glow not only here growing up... but at Brown University she was an incredible light in that specific location as well.”
A group leader, Martin Bertao, released remarks from the organization. “She was famed for her courageous, valiant, and compassionate nature as she worked for her branch and peers,” he said.
The US ambassador, Jonathan Henick, said he was “profoundly grieved” by Umurzokov’s death in a tribute. “We offer our heartfelt sympathies to his relatives, friends, and schoolmates and lament the passing of his potential.”

Saturday’s killings at Brown, the seventh oldest in the US higher education institution with about over seven thousand undergraduate and postgraduate students, occurred during one of at least nearly 400 mass shootings documented across the United States so far in this year, according to records. Monday was the 349th day of the year.
