White House Accused of Attack on Freedom of Expression After British Journalist Held
A major Islamic civil liberties group has alleged the current administration of a “blatant insult to freedom of expression” following national immigration authorities detained British journalist Sami Hamdi on Sunday.
The group claimed that Hamdi was detained at San Francisco airport for speaking out against the Israeli current military campaign in Gaza. Hamdi is one of several persons who have been arrested and expelled by immigration enforcement for expressing pro-Palestine stances.
Federal authorities said that the journalist’s visa had been revoked, and that he was in custody “facing expulsion.”

A statement from the group labeled it was “an obvious insult to freedom of expression” to detain Hamdi for condemning the Israeli current military campaign in the Gaza region while he was involved on a lecture series. Officials commented in a separate announcement that Hamdi is facing deportation.
